What is Dabbing?

What is Dabbing? - Vapefiend

George Alexander |

Dabbing has become a super popular consumption method in North America, Europe and the UK and its no surprise why.

Dabbing is an umberella term for the inhalation of flash vaporized concentrated essential oils, giving you a quick burst of intense flavour. It is a more refined method of vaporization that features less impurities in the end product. The impurities, such as chlorophyll, have been removed from your herbs through the extraction process, isolating the essential oils, terpenes, terpenoids and flavanoids that you do want to inhale.

The dabbing process usually consists of placing a small amount of your chosen extracts on to nail, banger, E-nail or atomiser and then inhaling them through a water tool. It's a super fast an efficient consumption method, that we love here at Vapefiend, and there a few different ways to accomplish it. We're going to discuss the pro's and con's of each.

Dabbing with a Torch.

Dabbing with a torch & Nail, also known as a banger when made from Quartz, is the oldest and most traditional way of dabbing. It requires the user to heat up a bong attachment with a blow torch, and then 'dab' the concentrate on the heated surface, inhaling the vapour through a water pipe, which helps to cool and filter it. The heated attachment are often made out of Quartz, Ceramic and Titanium, with each material having there pro's and cons. Titanium is generally considered to be the most durable, but lacks the flavour that ceramic and quartz do. Ceramic retains heat extremely well, but is prone to heat stress and can break easily. Quartz is generally considered the best for flavour, but again is easily broken.

Dabbing with a nail and torch is a fairly affordable way to start dabbing and has a ritualistic feel to it, but safety concerns from the use of torches and only a limited control over temperatures has resigned the Torch and nail method as being somewhat 'old school'.

E-nails

E-nails or 'Electronic Nails' give you much better control over the temperature you want to dab at, and different temperatures give you different experiences whilst dabbing. There is much less guess work involved with an E-nail, making the experience that bit more refined and efficient, as you will almost never dab your concentrates too hot, diminishing the flavour. They are also excellent used in group settings such as parties & gatherings, as they are much more convenient than heating up nails and bangers every few minutes, which puts a lot of stress on your glass. It also removes the fire risk element involved with using a blow torch, but there is still the risk of burning yourself on the heating coil.

The technology within an E-nail have now become refined into portable units such as the Dabbie Pro, which allow you to enjoy precise temperature controlled dabs wherever you are. You can check the Dabbie Pro out here: https://vapefiend.co.uk/dabbie-pro-portable-ceramic-e-nail

Concentrate pen

Concentrate pens take the refined heating techniques of an E-nail and then compact them into a portable vaporizer that can be used on the go. These devices are super discreet and portable and truly allow you to enjoy your concentrates wherever you are. They look almost identical to many E-cigarettes on the market, and go completely overlooked when used out in public.

You get instant vapour at the push of a button which allows you to 'sip' on your concentrates, enjoying the subtle flavours at your leisure, unlike the Torch and E-nail methods which require to inhale the whole load of vapour at once.

Our favourite concentrate pens are the Dabstorm 2.5: https://vapefiend.co.uk/dabstorm-2-0-digital-ceramic-dab-mod

& the Puffco Plus: https://vapefiend.co.uk/puffco-plus

Hot Air

Possibly the most refined and efficient way to dab, in our opinion is the 'Hot Air' Dab, which uses indirect conduction as well as convection heating to deliver delicate, tasty vapour which retains all of the flavour profile of your concentrates. Because the concentrate doesn't come into contact with a flash heated surface, there is no charing of the oil, so the favour profile is preserved.

You can do this in devices such as the Vapexhale Cloud Evo, which contains a heater wrapped around a glass tube that is heated on demand as you inhale. You place the

The vapour is then filtered through a 'hydratube' and into your lungs.

The hot air method seems to be the most efficient of all the methods giving you huge clouds of vapour out of a small amount of concentrate. This makes your concentrates last much longer, allowing to enjoy even more dabs!

From its humble beginnings to ever changing technology, dabbing is the future of vaporisation and we want you to experience it in all its glory.
